Detailed Syllabus & Examination Format

Eligibility Criteria:

» Diploma holder from any recognised Examination Board (UK & Overseas)
» Minimum 7 years of formal training in the chosen art form
» Age: 16 years and above

Natya Visharad - Bharatanatyam

Syllabus

Candidates must prepare the following 10 items:

  • 1) Alarippu - Kandam
  • 2) Jathiswaram
  • 3) Sabdam
  • 4) Varnam
  • 5) Padam
  • 6) Keerthanam
  • 7) Thevaram
  • 8) Javali
  • 9) Mallari
  • 10) Thillana

Examination Format

  • All 10 items are compulsory.
  • Examiners may ask for full items or selected portions/clips from any item.
  • Total examination duration: 1 hour

Oral / Practical Assessment - 40 Minutes

  • Nattuvangam Demonstration: 10 minutes
  • Teaching Demonstration: 15 minutes
  • Oral (Viva) Questions: 15 minutes

Presentation / Submission

Candidates must submit a written presentation on:

Fusion Music and Bharatanatyam - Choreography / Dance Composition

Word limit: 100 words only
Format: Short essay
Focus: Brief innovation and creative approach

Examination Procedure

  • One family member is permitted to be present during the examination.
  • Video recording of the exam recital is allowed for personal reference only.

Grading System

  • Distinction » Merit » Pass

Grading System

Gana Booshanam - Carnatic Vocal

Syllabus

Candidates must prepare the following 10 items:

  • 1) Varnam - Adi Tala
  • 2) Ata Tala Varnam or Jhampa Tala Varnam
  • 3) Pancharatna Kriti
  • 4) Keerthanam
  • 5) Ragam - Tanam - Pallavi
  • 6) Keerthanam with Ragamalika Swaram
  • 7) Ashtapadi
  • 8) Light Music Song
  • 9) Javali
  • 10) Thillana

Examination Format

  • All items will be asked.
  • Examiners may ask for a part or short clip of any item.

Oral Examination

  • Total Duration: 40 Minutes
  • 15 minutes - Demonstration on how to teach a student
  • 10 minutes - Short presentation on two Hindustani ragas
  • 15 minutes - Oral questions

Essay Submission

  • Word limit: 100 words
  • Topic: Fusion Composition
  • Carnatic & Hindustani or Carnatic & Western Classical

Exam Procedure

  • One family member is allowed to be present.
  • Full video recording of the 1-hour performance is permitted.
